About Us
|
"It may have been a cold, sprinkly Oct. day outside, but from the time we arrived at Bear Inn the Woods, we had a warm, cozy feeling inside. Lynne and Carl are fabulous hosts. Conversation flowed easily, the country flavor of their home is as delicious to your eyes as Lynne's cooking is to your tummy! Our whole experience from "bed to breakfast" was the perfect getaway weekend that was much needed in our stressful life."

Let us pamper you with . . . |

Bear Inn the Woods---nestled in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in northern N. Y. halfway between Utica and Old Forge (l mile off Rte. l2 in the Alder Creek area) An inn for all reasons---whether you wish to be active in the outdoors or simply put your feet up and relax, Bear Inn the Woods affords you a spot to indulge your-self. It provides a wonderful base from which to explore the areas cultural, historical, or sports attractions as well as participate in the many special events held in nearby communities throughout the year.

An inn for all seasons--Each season brings its own charm to the Adirondacks:
Winter -- A silence engulfs the area as in no other season. White is everywhere and holiday lights twinkle all around during the dark months. Wild turkeys and deer visit the back yard. Snow lays a white carpet of sparkling diamond in which to play--x-country ski, snowmobile, snowshoe or hike right from our back door (groomed trails go from here to Canada!!!). The hot tub is especially rewarding after a vigoroous day in the out-of-doors. Curl up on the sofa with a good book by the warmth of the woodstove and snuggle in cozy flannel sheets under down comforters at night.
Spring -- Lynne labels this season the time of the baby leaves.Smell the freshness in the air and watch plants come to life again as green becomes the dominant color once more.
Summer -- Marvel at the variety of birds visiting the feeders, relax on the deck or glider, laze in the hammock, enjoy flowers everywhere, hike in the woods or meadows or down to the lake for a dip, barbeque supper on the deck, enjoy a campfire and toast marshmallows while millions of stars appear, sleep with cool breezes floating through the window or use the air conditioners if needed.
Fall -- The most colorful time of year--the beauty of the reds, yellows and oranges are spectacular. Hear the crunch of leaves underfoot. Feel the crispness in the air and catch the last warm rays of the sun for awhile.

Owners - Carl (a nurse, now working as a warehouse supervisor) and Lynne (a retired elementary school teacher--still substitute teaching in local schools) purchased this property to follow their dream of operating a bed and breakfast as a business. They had operated a B&B as a hobby in their previous home but felt they'd like to be in an area more popular with tourists. The home has a rustic look and feel on the inside--decorated with Adirondack furniture and bits and pieces they've gathered from travels--from works of art to touches of whimsy. Their love of celebrations brings a new look to each room in Bear Inn the Woods with each changing season and holiday.
Their experience in the joy of entertaining visitors includes 6 summer seasons working at resorts--one in Washington State in the Kaniksu Mountains and one in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. At these resorts, Carl worked as groundskeeper and general maintenance man as well as helping Lynne who managed the kitchen with its preparation and serving of meals to guests. Two overly-friendly dogs and a parrot complete the household. They love their home, its setting and sharing it with others!
